The Truckers Did That
Freedom Convoy decisively altered the trajectory of pandemic measures in Canada.
Michael’s film: Part 1 here. » Part 2 here.
Toward the end of his love letter to the truckers, Michael Grandlouis takes a few moments to remind us what the trucker protest accomplished. The above video starts rolling at the 25:13-minute mark. That’s where he says:
You gotta remember. You have to remember. The day the truckers rolled into town, OK, the Goat - Legault - he was gonna tax his people over what we’re not allowed to talk about.
Michael is referring to Quebec Premier François Legault who, on January 11th, had announced a new tax on residents of that province who weren’t fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (Facebook and YouTube aggressively censor videos that question the vaccines, thus the allusion to not being permitted to discuss certain matters.)
As this BBC news article explains, that no-vax tax was merely the latest discriminatory measure: “Last week, the province announced that it would require proof of vaccination to shop in government cannabis and liquor stores.” The screw was being tightened. Citizens who made the ‘wrong’ decision were targeted by the government.
Michael continues:
He was gonna tax them, OK. It was full on, full on. And within a week of the truckers being here, flexing - that’s what it was, it was a massive flex - OK?
All of a sudden, all the provinces, man. They were all scaling back the [COVID] regulations. All of them. And it just started, and it just went like this, like dominoes, right?
So you gotta remember, when they rolled into town, they were gonna tax people over this. And now look. Now you can eat in a restaurant, and you don’t have to - you know what I mean?
You don’t have to wear a mask. You don’t have to show a passport. You can just go to a restaurant like a normal person and you can have a meal.
And you know who did that? The truckers did that.
So thank you, truckers!
