Encounters with the Media
I reached up and pulled the wires out of his camera. I said, ‘Now, get off the truck.’
During his time in Ottawa as part of the Freedom Convoy protest, Nova Scotia trucker Guy Meister had a number of interactions with journalists. He wouldn’t speak to anyone, he says, unless they first gave him their business card. When an American reporter declined to do so, he told her to get lost.
Rebel News behaved reasonably, he says. So did some German journalists, and Alan Butterfield - who writes for the UK Daily Mail. “When I read the article by Alan, he didn't lie in it,” says Guy. “The only thing he did is he made a mistake on my age. He still texts me every now and then.”
On one occasion, a reporter from a major Canadian news outlet climbed onto Guy’s vintage Mack without asking permission:
He got on the back of my truck. Climbed up on the frame and everything. I asked him to get down, because I was trying to keep people off it.
He wouldn't. So I reached up and pulled the wires out of his camera. I said, ‘You're not filming. Now, get off the truck.’
