Gone to the Highway in the Sky
One of the earliest truckers to be arrested during the violent crackdown on the Freedom Convoy is now deceased.
Mike Jamieson was one of the earliest truckers the first trucker to be arrested once the brutal shutdown of the Freedom Convoy began. His window was smashed by riot police, he was pulled from his vehicle, handcuffed, and charged with mischief. Released from police custody four hours later, he was ejected into subzero weather in unsuitable attire (see here and here).
CORRECTION: The first group of truckers to be arrested were parked on Nicholas Street. Arrests began around 7:30 am on Friday, 18 Feb. 2022. Mike was arrested a few hours later. Click here for more info (see bottom of post).
Mike will never get his day in court. 82 days after his arrest, he was found dead in his big yellow Freightliner.
“I’ve known him for years and years,” says Guy Meister, the friend arrested with him that day. One evening in May 2022, Guy talked to Mike on the phone
about the beef jerky he was gonna get from our cows. That was five o'clock. 10 o'clock he went through the toll booth. And then the next morning he didn't deliver. I knew where all of his resting spots were. I found him up in the Cobequid Pass. We opened up the truck and he was cold.
Mike was 68 years old. He’s described by those who knew him as a workaholic. Because, really, he had two jobs. By day he was a trucker who hauled groceries in refrigerated trailers. After hours, he was a sound engineer. For decades, he provided expertise and equipment for county fairs, charities, community events, local bands, and Nova Scotia’s famous Mermaid Theatre.
