Why Were We Creating a Dangerous Stereotype?
Transcript of full testimony by Marianne Klovak, veteran CBC journalist who challenged media malfeasance (26 pages).
Veteran journalist Marianne Klowak left the CBC in late 2021. Last month, she testified for more than an hour at the National Citizen’s Inquiry. What she and other journalists have now said out loud concerning the corruption of Canadian journalism is of immense national significance.
If we want to understand the sharp disconnect between what actually took place during the Freedom Convoy protest and what the media reported, I believe Marianne’s testimony is key. I’ve gone to the trouble of producing a transcript of her remarks for public consumption. Prettied-up and turned into a PDF, it runs to 26 pages.
This is an astonishing document. It’s chock-a-block with strong statements, the likes of which I never expected to hear come out of the mouth of any CBC reporter. Here are just three examples:
I understood our mandate at the CBC was to elevate the voice of Canadians. To tell stories on a local, a regional, and a national level reflecting Canadians to Canadians - to promote understanding and unity.
And instead, we were fanning the flames of fear, of division, of segregation - and hatred against a particular group, the unvaccinated. [p. 7 of the PDF]
and:
look at all the pastors [who]…defied rules, and said, ‘How can you have 300 people in Costco and you're telling us we can only have 25 people in our church at a service on Sunday?…And, you know, they were hammered by the media. For expressing their faith and standing up for it. [p. 25]
and:
Why were we creating a dangerous stereotype of who we thought a vaccine hesitant person was? And why were we creating a hate culture against them and demonizing these people as a threat to public safety? [p. 9]
