Wellington Warriors Beat the Wellington Wild
Trucker hockey game raises funds for legal battles.
Two teams faced off yesterday at an outdoor ball hockey rink near Hamilton, Ontario. The Wellington Warriors, in the the dark jerseys, won 6 to 4. That team included trucker Jay, who brought The Shed to Ottawa, Sam who envisioned the platform that was built on top of The Shed, Ben whose boom truck served as the stage, and many others who protested in Ottawa for weeks.
The Wellington Wild team were the latecomers. Those trucks moved onto Wellington Street during the final week of the protest. Harold Jonker, brother Tim, and brother-in-law Jeff were part of the Wild team. It also included four gents visiting from out-of-province, and three gals who supported the Convoy.
Things began with prayer and the singing of the national anthem. Trucker Csaba dropped a ceremonial puck. Afterward, two hockey sticks bearing the signatures of each team were auctioned off. One went for over $400 and the other for over $500. The money will help pay Harold and Csaba’s legal bills.
