By the time the Freedom Convoy reached Ottawa, millions of Canadians had discovered they weren’t alone. In fact, their worldview was shared by a cross-section of individuals from many walks of life.
The above compilation of early Convoy footage was uploaded before noon on January 29, 2022 - the morning of the day that most of the trucks arrived in the nation’s capital.
No one had any idea the protest was about to turn into a three-week standoff, with the government treating these hardworking citizens like mangy dogs who didn’t deserve even half-an-hour of an official’s time.
What this means is that the important Freedom Convoy stuff happened not in government meetings but out there on the street. And inside people’s hearts — from coast to coast to coast. There was honking, dancing, hugging, and laughing.
Had a big cry watching the video today.
What a relief it was, at the time of our increasing exclusion and fear, to see people line the frozen highway. We stood on our our own local bypass and lost even more friends for doing so.
I was and am still so proud of Canada for being the only country to stand up to the madness.
It has been quite the journey. I am still hesitant to write my whole truth for fear of hurting some loved ones. I still censor myself on social media and in conversation for fear of losing work. The trauma was real, and the effects are still around.
Watching and hearing the outrage over Trump and the built up hysterical fear around losing freedom of speech, on the news and in people's conversation, is just mind blowing.
What do they think we lived through? Do they not know? Deeply ironic. Ha.
Yes!
