Part 1: The Canadian Trucking Alliance: Who does it represent? Part 2: The Manitoba Trucking Association: Who's actually a member? Part 3: How Lobbyists Failed Truckers Part 4: Repeated Requests for More Time Ignored
Yesterday, I observed that Canada’s national and provincial trucking associations are industry lobby groups. They do not, by any stretch of the imagination, speak for truck drivers.
In the case of the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA), most of its 296 members aren’t in the trucking business and are therefore “associated trade members” rather than “carriers.”
A startling number of those entities belong to the financial sector. These people sit at desks - not behind the wheel of a big rig:
American Express
Business Development Bank of Canada
BMO Transportation Finance
Canadian Western Bank Equipment Financing
The Cooperators
HSBC Bank Canada
IG Wealth Management
LBC Capital
RBC Commercial Financial Services
TD Commercial Banking
Other members of this trucking association are insurance companies:
BFL CANADA Risk and Insurance Services
ClaimsPro
Coughlin Insurance Brokers
GroupHEALTH Benefit Solutions
Manitoba Public Insurance
Northbridge Financial Corporation
Rempel Insurance Brokers
Penncorp Insurance and Financial Services
Village Insurance Brokers
Then there are the members from the education sector:
Boundary Trails Driving Academy
Buffalo Driver Training
First Class Training Center
Front Runner Driving School
Highway King Class 1 Training Centre
KMS Transport Driving Academy
Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology
Nichol Commercial Licensing
Perfect One Driving School
Professional Transport Driver Training
Red River College
United Transportation Driver Training
University of Manitoba Transport Info. Group
