A Beautiful Thing
Ottawa was like the best moments of every family gathering, Canada Day, and music concert.
Today we circle back to an old friend - Dave, from ‘Live From the Shed.’ He’s the Ontario HVAC tech who went to Ottawa for the weekend, stayed for a month, and has since become a YouTube personality.
In March, he participated in a panel discussion (starting at 11:40 minutes on this video). He explains that, rather than reverting to his former life, he continues to produce video content because a counterpoint to the dominant media narrative is necessary:
After my arrest [at gunpoint], I decided to keep sharing stories and doing interviews…and just telling the truth of what really happened there. Because even after the fact, they continue to lie about who we are.
You know these are my brothers, my friends, and to hear those lies being passed around about them just breaks me. And so that’s why we do what we do, at Live From the Shed.
A few minutes later, he sums up how it felt to be in Ottawa:
It was like the best moments of every wedding and family gathering, and every Canada Day and concert we’ve been to all thrown into a non-stop, three-week festival. It was a beautiful thing. The people I met were incredible.
…Even the roughest of dudes were dropping tears and turning soft when confronted with all the kids and the cards and little grannies giving you sandwiches. We were all crying more often than not.
So it was a beautiful thing. And to see it distorted into ‘terrorists’ and ‘misogynists’ and all these words that were used against us was just disturbing and heartbreaking.
