What's Going On Here, Man?
The police crackdown in Ottawa failed to silence yearnings for freedom and free speech.
After police used inexcusable violence to clear out peacefully protesting truckers on February 18th and 19th, many members of the public remained on Ottawa streets. It was a sombre moment, in which people were still processing what had transpired.
Laura Lynn Tyler Thomson was live streaming on the afternoon of Saturday the 19th. After speaking to one individual, at the one-minute mark of this video she addresses another who’s randomly walking by: “Sir, could I ask you? What’s your thoughts today?”
Delivered in a West Indian accent, this gent’s spur-of-the-moment reply is remarkably eloquent:
I find that it’s very intense that the government sends officers to try to intimidate us from standing for our rights. And I don’t want to see no bloodshed in Ottawa. Because we are spreading love and unity.
And the government don’t like love and unity. It want to separate us and fill us with lies. And play mind games with us.
But we are not stupid people. We are living beings. We have a soul. We have a mind, we think for ourselves. The government don’t think for us.
We want freedom - that’s all! Not violence.
This is not China. We have our free speech.
What’s going on here, man? Enough is enough. Stand for love. Spread love.
And freedom is a must!
