Correction. I’ve now found two instances in which the term Freedom Convoy appears in scare quotes in documents recently submitted to the Emergencies Act inquiry (see my post from yesterday).
As a former vice-president of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), it gives me no pleasure to report that the scare quotes appear on pages 13 and 16 of that entity’s closing submission.
This breaks my heart. Like many other venerable institutions, the CCLA is now run by people who announce their pronouns on the company website. Every last staff member does so. Perhaps there’s more groupthink than respectful diversity of opinion in that workplace.
In any case, let no one be confused. The CCLA is currently staffed by people who think it’s OK to sneer at working class truckers the same way journalists do.
I hope that Ontario Civil Liberties Association is a different org to Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA). Thank goodness it is.
It’s more than embarrassing. That a so called “civil liberties” organisation can be so derogatory is sad and dispiriting. In my long life I have never lived through a time like this. I hope that the pendulum will swing back before I go, though I am not filled with hope at this moment.
