We Salute the Truckers
Members of the Sikh community: 'we have joined in unison with our fellow Canadian patriots'
The Freedom Convoy was a multicultural event. Participants came from all walks of life. Over on Instagram, there’s an account called Guru Ka Langar, which translates as the Guru’s Free Kitchen.
In the Sikh religion, community kitchens provide food to all, at no charge. Strangers are welcome. Everyone dines together, whether rich or poor, eating identical fare. The dishes are usually vegetarian, in order to accommodate those with dietary restrictions.
Sikhs were part of the Freedom Convoy from the beginning. On January 30th, 2022 the first Sunday the truckers were in Ottawa, a collection of videos and photos were posted to the Guru Ka Langar Instagram account, accompanied by this text (bold added by me):
On behalf of the Sikh community, I would like to thank all the truckers and their families for leading the charge in re-establishing the true Canadian freedoms and values we have all come to enjoy. As Sikhs, our faith is deeply rooted in sacrifice. Coming from a warrior lineage and following in the steps of our forefathers, we have joined in unison with our fellow Canadian patriots to battle valiantly for our collective rights. Sikhs have fought tyranny since the dawn of their existence and this moment in history is no different. As we salute the truckers, we vow to stand alongside them attain victory for this True North Sovereign land we call home. We have drawn a line in the sand and promise to rise as a resistance against every attrocity during this march towards true independence. Sikhs are Canadian and Canada is for the people!!!
Shoutout to the team that ran the Langar today at Downtown Toronto

In one of these videos, we see a Sikh in the cab of a big rig, accompanied by two youngsters. Large signs on the side of his truck read:
Mandate the freedom of choice
We prefer dangerous freedom to peaceful slavery
In other videos, we see Sikhs serving hot chocolate from a pitcher being dipped into a massive pot that’s being heated with a propane tank on the sidewalk. We see coffee and bottled water being distributed, as well as pastries.
We see hugs. We see smiles. We see unity and camaraderie.
Love this so much! I love Canada, and I love people who love Canada.
There is a Sikh temple close to us here in Dundas. The street entrance to the grounds is framed with two large Canadian flags.
