The Zero Political Experience Prime Minister
Mark Carney doesn't even know where the bathrooms are on Parliament Hill.
In an insightful and entertaining essay, Peter Stockland says Canada has just elected an “untested, unchallenged, unproven, zero political experience party leader as prime minister.” He points out that Mark Carney
has never led any political office from the reeve of a rural municipal council on up…An iron law of politics is that somewhere, somehow, something is going wrong. Every day. The prime minister’s job is to fix it. Not now, but right now. It’s not helpful if he or she doesn’t even know for the first 100 days where the bathrooms are on Parliament Hill.
Stockland’s larger point is that Canadian journalists failed to report some important facts prior to the election. It turns out that 8 out of 10 Americans oppose the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state. Since Donald Trump is a populist president who pays close attention to the public mood, that outcome was hardly likely.
Yet hysteria ran rampant, whipped up by journalists who’ve lost the ability to think rationally. And now the keys to the kingdom have been handed to a first-year political apprentice.

A comment from a cynical ex-news guy: me. I wonder if Mr. Stockland would/could have written such a clear-eyed analysis if he were still employed by the Montreal Gazette? :) So very well said, btw.
Well it does look like the liberal herd was panicked.
No one remined the Canadians that Carney was or is a Privy council member. That should be the clue as to who runs Canada? The monarchy of the yookay?
