Here's another Faces of Freedom profile by independent filmmaker Ben Amaral, shot in Ottawa. Sam from Alberta says he felt compelled to join the Convoy after cheering on a contingent of truckers who were departing from Edmonton. He was able to do so, he says, because he is unemployed:
I'm sitting around. Now why don't I have a job? I'm young. I'm healthy. I'm strong, capable. But I don't have a job because I refuse to get vaccinated. I think that's kind of crazy...
...you know, I'm not anti-vaxx. I've had vaccines when I was a kid. And they're great, the science is great. But when it comes down to it's now your employer's business whether you are vaccinated or not, that is something different. It should be between you and your doctor...
…These mandates really need to stop, like yesterday...the bottom line is it should be personal choice...If we have over 80 percent of all the people in Canada double vaccinated - that was kind of the plan from the get-go, right - it should be declared victory, and everyone moves on.
Sam says he got behind the wheel of his truck and drove through Saskatchewan and Manitoba on his own, in the dark and through snowstorms, before catching up to the Convoy in Dryden, Ontario. He says he almost gave up and turned back a couple of times.
Despite the supportive atmosphere amongst the protesters, he’s adamant he'd rather be at home. "This has to stop, and hopefully this is the message that'll do it. You know, I shouldn't have to drive across our country in the dead of winter with our nation's flag upside down in the back of my truck."
Two years ago on this date - Valentine’s Day - Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act against people like Sam - people who had the courage to think for themselves and to stand up for themselves.
Well Sam from Wetaskiwin, well done 👍
Today here in southern Alberta, I just had another person stop by to thank us for our lawn sign collection... we're into the double digits now!
"You're saying what everyone is thinking"
....keep it up, fight for freedom!
