Ten Lost Years. Now What?
The Freedom Convoy taught us something important. When roused, Canadians do amazing things.
Monday evening Canada will learn its fate. Will we change course or suffer further economic stagnation?
The above graph was created by economics professor Trevor Tombe, at the University of Calgary. Canada appears in red, bottom left. While many countries prospered over the past 10 years, we made almost no progress. Indeed, we lost a full decade of economic growth.
During this same time period, our government flung open the doors to a record-breaking number of immigrants - more than 3 million. It also welcomed between 3 and 4 million temporary workers. And an additional 4 million foreign students (see this Grok breakdown).
Young adults who were 18 when Justin Trudeau became prime minister in 2015 are now 28. Between the dismal economy and the disruption of the COVID years, a crucial period in their lives has been tragically stunted. Many are unlikely to ever afford their own homes.
Canada in 2025 is ragged, faded, and tired. Yet journalists and mesmerized members of the public think our biggest problem is Donald Trump.
Never mind. Large crowds have been gathering in communities across this nation to hear a conservative leader - Pierre Polievre - speak. Thousands upon thousands, for event after event. These numbers are not normal. Something has changed. Something is different.
No one knows what will happen on election day. But three years ago the Freedom Convoy taught us this: When roused, Canadians are capable of amazing things.
Have been volunteering in my riding, in the office and hitting doors, for many days. I attended the Pierre P rally here in Stoney Creek a few weeks ago with 5000 other cheering Canadians. There is an energy flowing I have seen on exactly *zero* previous elections I've worked.
Praying for Canada full-time and singing to myself all day long: 'God keep our Land; Glorious and Free'.
I pray that everyone who's ever stood on an overpass waving to the Convoy gets out and votes Conservative. We can't take another 4 years of this socialist hell driven by climate nuttery and identity politics.
