Share Your Views with the Emergencies Act Commission
No guarantees your message will be heard, but you're invited to speak.
For the next 10 days, members of the public are invited to submit comments to the Commission examining the use of the Emergencies Act against peaceful protesters in downtown Ottawa earlier this year.
This can be done by sending email to
perspectives@poec-cedu.gc.ca
by sending a letter via Canada Post, or by filling out an online questionnaire. The Commission recommends keeping your comments brief and to the point - one or two pages in length, if possible, and no more than five pages.
Among the topics the Commission invites you to address:
If you protested “anywhere in Canada in January and February 2022,” why did you do so and what did you experience?
If you observed the protests (rather than participating) how did they affect your mood and your well being?
How did the Emergencies Act affect you - either as a participant or observor?
What is your assessment of the “police and government response” to the protests?
Was the use of the Emergencies Act justified?
What effect did its use have on Canada’s international reputation?
The Commission says it accepts anonymous submissions, but requests that you indicate the country in which you reside. Your submission may include “your name, age, location, and any other characteristics you would like to share.”
The Commission says it would also be helpful if you indicate which of these categories you belong to:
Involved in the convoy, protests, and/or border blockades across Canada
Not involved, but affected by them either negatively or positively
Member of the public in Canada (state which province or territory)
Member of the public outside of Canada
In a public service or government role, including law enforcement, border protection, first response
Speaking for a non-profit or advocacy organization
All Canadians should submit their views!
Also, thanks to political commentator John Feldsted from Winnipeg for mentioning this link in his blog.
Independent media should be promoting this until month end!!
