Returning November 28th
Blog will be pausing for two weeks. See you on the last Monday of the month.
This blog/newsletter is an early version of my book-in-progress titled Thank You, Truckers! It’s about ordinary folks. The Freedom Convoy truckers who drove to Ottawa plus the members of the public who supported them during their journey and extended protest.
This is a story of community. These two groups were halves of the same whole. Many of these individuals - who’d never before attended a protest - say these events changed their lives.
By this time in November, I had expected to have sewed together a full first draft of my book. I am behind schedule, for many good reasons. A huge one being the five days per week of testimony at the Emergencies Act hearings which began last month. This testimony will continue for an additional two weeks.
Thousands of pages of documents are being introduced into evidence at these hearings - documents that would normally never make it into the public sphere. For researchers trying to understand the official response to the Freedom Convoy, these documents are a goldmine. But they are also overwhelming.
Trying to keep half an ear on this testimony while at the same time transcribing interviews, preparing daily blog posts, and stitching together my manuscript is exhausting.
So I’ll be pausing this blog for two weeks in order to get a bunch of other things done :-)
Keep well. See you soon - on the last Monday of this month.
Will definitely miss Thank You Truckers! Of the many wonderful Substacks I subscribe to, this is the first one I look for, because it always lifts my spirits! Good luck on getting your book together Donna and a heartfelt thank you for all you do to bring the truth forward!
Look forward to seeing you later in the month!!
Thank you for your work, it is invaluable. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by what is happening, but I try to rally. I am so glad that people like you are still speaking up. We need our voices to be heard.
