Part 1: Hero to Zero: Dan’s Story Part 2: The Kindness of Strangers Part 3: Helping Hands
Aircraft mechanic Dan reports that, during the three weeks he was protesting in Ottawa, he received continual support from local residents:
There’s a gentleman that came by and fed us every night. He had little wraps. He had bananas, apples, oranges. Little treats that his mother baked that day.
Every day. It was all free. I’d say he was early forties. And he brought his son, a cute little guy, pudgy-cheeked kid, just happy. Just happy to get out and see everybody.
At one point, Dan says, they gave this man $200:
Rich said ‘This is a thank you. This isn’t free for you and we’re getting donations so we want to give it back.’
People were giving us all this money and we weren’t just taking it and hoarding it. It was that whole atmosphere, a big circle. It just kept going around. It was truly, honestly, the best feeling in life that you can ever experience.
