Making Canada Cool Again

Our truckers inspired people around the world.

I downloaded this image, by an unknown artist, from the Internet on Jan. 31, 2022 - a few days after the truckers arrived in Ottawa. The German above and below the truck translates as “Worldwide for freedom! Thank you!”

Some of those who participated in a recent Facebook poll say the Freedom Convoy that gave Canadians new hope inspired others, as well. In the COVID weary early weeks of 2022, the world was suddenly talking about Canada. People elsewhere looked at one another and said: Even the polite Canadians have had enough. Even easygoing Canadians are done. Look at those truckers driving thousands of miles through ice and snow. Look at them demanding to be heard.

Our truckers inspired similar convoys on at least three continents. Around the world, pro-freedom demonstrators hoisted Canadian flags alongside their own.

It wasn’t politicians who made Canada cool again. It was working class people. People who make stuff, who move stuff, who fix stuff.

Canadian truckers lit a beacon that energized the world.
