Journalist's Bank Account Frozen
Vancity pretends to be a warm and fuzzy credit union, so where's the assistance, the info, the empathy?
Meghan Murphy is a rare kind of journalist, one who’s capable of talking about the Freedom Convoy rationally (see here, here, and here). She is better known, however, for courageously speaking out against men in women’s restrooms, women’s sports, and women’s prisons. As a result, she has been publicly smeared - accused of transphobia and hate speech.
Anti-free-speech activists have done everything in their power to cancel her. In 2019 the mayor of Toronto shamefully tried to shut down an event that included Meghan as a speaker. In his view, apparently, a public library shouldn’t be hosting someone voicing opinions in line with the majority of the population. (Chief librarian Vickery Bowles admirably stood her ground and the event went ahead.)
Yesterday, Meghan announced that her bank account with the Vancouver City Savings Credit Union (Vancity) was frozen last Tuesday. Credit Unions are supposed to be friendlier versions of banks, but rather than being helpful or apologetic, she says they’ve spent days telling her only one thing: that they were following government orders. Meghan was interviewed by The Rebel yesterday April 25, 2025. In it she said that the government communicated with the Credit Union by fax. So below is my comment and a link to the interview:
"Okay I will ask the obvious question that admittedly only came to my mind this morning when we were talking about it. Meghan said that the government communicated this order with the Credit Union by FAX. It would be very easy for someone who knows how to create a fake document and spoof the caller ID. It also seems odd that the government would communicate this by fax. Has the Credit Union confirmed that this order is really legitimate? Also, by who, which government, what department & signed by who?"
