On February 7, 2022 the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper published a lengthy article about the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa. Much of it concerned an Indiana trucker who’d traveled to Canada to take part:
Brian Gregg, a long-haul driver for almost 30 years, drove up from his home in the Indianapolis area to Ottawa to support his fellow 'brother and sister Canadian truck drivers…If an unvaccinated truck driver needs to quarantine for 14 days every time they cross back into Canada, they won't be able to work and support their families,' Gregg said.
Between being married to a Canadian and making thousands of trips to Canada behind the wheel of his big rig, Brian thinks of this country as a “second home.” Having been part of the protest for a week by then, he told the newspaper he was amazed at the public support.
“We have access to whatever we need. I haven't spent a dime since I've been here,” he said. Truckers on his block were sharing a paid-for hotel room in which they could shower, use the toilet, or even grab a nap in a full-sized bed, he explained.
The same news article mentioned a young man who was refueling parked trucks such as Brian’s via Jerry cans and a wagon. “I’m trying to do my part in this protest,” that Good Samaritan says. “I’m paying for the diesel fuel out of my pocket. I’ll do whatever I can.”
Isn’t it interesting that electronic searches of both the the CBC website and CTVNews turn up no mention of a US trucker named Brian Gregg or his participation in the Freedom Convoy protest?
