Trucker Rick has a Santa Claus beard. Photojournalist Beth Baisch checked in with him on Friday, Feb. 18 - the day the violent, two-day police crackdown that cleared Ottawa of protesters began.
He tells her, in a philosophical manner, that the police “have a job, I guess, to do - and I have a job to do. And I’ll just stand my ground, that’s it.”
When she asks: “So you don’t plan on going anywhere,” he lightheartedly replies, “No, it’s a beautiful day.”
Shortly afterward, he declares: “We’re in a movie, right now. We’re almost at the end.” He then insists the Freedom Convoy won before it even reached Ottawa - an opinion that’s shared by journalist Andrew Lawton.
