Judy from Winnipeg wrote a letter to the truckers. It’s only half a page long, but she thanks them three times in that short space. For their “bravery and courage” and for “standing up for my unvaccinated dad.”
Now aged 84, she says her father caught COVID in the summer of 2021, developed pneumonia, and was admitted to hospital out of an abundance of caution. But rather than receiving attentive and compassionate care, this elderly gentleman appears to have served a 3-week prison sentence. In her words, he endured
20 days without family visits. 20 days without shaving. 20 days without brushing his teeth. 20 days with broken glasses. 20 days on psychotropic drugs. 20 days treated like a dementia patient (which he is not). 20 days in which even his vaccinated pastor was not allowed to see him.
Her father describes the overall experience as 20 days in “a hell hole.”
Judy believes his non-vaccinated status contributed to his neglect and abuse. While that might be tricky to prove in a court of law, let us ask ourselves one question: Would it be OK to treat a dog this way?
Would it be OK to isolate a dog alone in a room for weeks? What kind of extraordinary risk - to either the dog or the humans involved - would need to exist before such measures would seem reasonable and humane?
Judy knew better than to imagine that our country’s Prime Minister might care about her father’s mistreatment. At 33 seconds into the video at the bottom of this post Justin Trudeau declares: “If you make a choice, a personal choice, to not get vaccinated then I will have no sympathy for you…”
He said vaccine abstainers “don’t have a right to endanger others.” But he made those remarks a month after the head of the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) had finally admitted the obvious: COVID vaccines don’t actually prevent vaccinated individuals from spreading the virus.
When the leader of your country says he has no sympathy for people who make the ‘wrong’ choices, the world can feel harsh and lonely. The Freedom Convoy showed Judy that Canada still includes decent people. The politicians didn’t care, but the truckers did.
