Happy New Year, everyone! 2025 is going to be fabulous.
At last, my book is approaching completion. It includes an Introduction, an Epilogue, plus 35 chapters. Even when a chapter focuses on a single individual we hear about many other people - family and friends, coworkers, strangers encountered throughout the Freedom Convoy experience.
Now that I’ve stepped back and am reading one chapter after another in sequence to make sure everything flows, I’m encountering the full force of hundreds of amazing anecdotes. Canadians helping and loving each other; giving with both hands. The overall tone is so upbeat, inspiring, uplifting that I now understand why a friend has compared my Convoy reporting to the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.
There was, undeniably, a dark side to those early weeks of 2022. The contemptuous refusal of the authorities to even meet with/listen to the protesters and their concerns. The appalling manner in which this determinedly peaceful demonstration ended - via riot police wielding clubs, tear gas, pepper spray, concussion grenades, and firearms. The utter betrayal of the mainstream media - which continues to function as government mouthpiece, rather than providing anything like a meaningful check on state power.
These matters are described in my book. By people who were there. But honestly, the ugliness is dwarfed by all the goodness, all the love, all the unity. The Freedom Convoy is part of Canada’s history, and together we’ve been documenting that history.
Soon, I will need your help to spread word about my book far and wide. See you again on Monday, January 20th!
Freeland is shelved,Trudeau will soon be history, the Freedom Convoy spirit prevails.
