Halloween in Reverse
Small children handing goodies to the truckers. When were protesters ever embraced this way?
No protest in Canadian history received the kind of support the truckers inspired. From sea to shining sea, people did far more than wave and cheer. They donated food. And windshield fluid. Bottled water, soda, and juice. By the trailer full. They brought pots of hot soup, wrote messages on lunch bags, and filled plastic zipper bags with home baking and other snacks.
This was Halloween in reverse. Small children handing goodies to the truckers.
At the top of this post is a 7-minute compilation video assembled by AM Production in Las Vegas. It was uploaded to YouTube on February 2nd, 2022, and has been viewed more than 130,000 times. Some of this footage I recognize, but much of it is new to me.
At 1:05-1:18 minutes we see a man on the side of the road cross a couple of lanes, approach a truck, and hand the driver a hefty donation. This isn’t shallow celebrity worship. This is real. This is love.
Name one other protest in the history of this nation that generated such enthusiasm.
Of particular interest is a two-minute segment (2:32 to 4:35) that documents the extensive supplies that were collected for the truckers in a parking lot at an unidentified Esso gas station.
If you recognize this location, I’d be grateful to hear about it. Please e-mail me at:
