Gentle, Implacable People Power
From afar, UK writer watches Freedom Convoy arrive in Ottawa: 'I was literally weeping and sobbing with joy.'
Yesterday I introduced you to Gord Magill, a trucker with his own podcast and Substack. Back in March, he recorded a discussion between himself and KB Goldtooth, a writer based in London, England.
The latter recalls being wide awake in the middle of the night across the pond, watching the Convoy roll into Ottawa via social media:
I was literally weeping and sobbing with joy…I was so moved by what I saw. I knew there and then that I’d never seen anything like it. I’d never seen such gentle, implacable people power.
…this sounds corny, or might sound overdone, but I really felt and I think I still feel that this was divinely inspired. You know, somebody upstairs had become intolerant of the pretensions of these despots down here and had decided to draw a line. Had decided enough is enough and had inspired an event that was the perfect revolution, almost.
You know, it just made all of these edifices that had oppressed so many of us in so many ways for so many, many months - it made them all look so brittle and pathetic.
And it made people look so powerful. So I was incredibly, incredibly moved.
