Frivolous & Vexatious Trucker Trial
More than three years after the fact, the owner of the Nova Scotia vintage Mack is heading to trial.
Chapter 10 in Thank You, Truckers! is about Guy Meister. He drove to Ottawa from Nova Scotia, three provinces over. His vintage Mack truck with the duck hood ornament spent weeks parked at the infamous Rideau & Sussex intersection.
That was the lone intersection the truckers persistently blocked. Employing large machinery, police cruisers, and massive concrete barriers, the police blocked a couple of dozen more.
Guy was charged with mischief and resisting arrest. His version of events is that, when the riot police arrived, he stepped out of his friend’s bright yellow Freightliner and was calm and cooperative while police cuffed him with a ziptie.
Gord Magill has just recorded a wonderful podcast with Guy. They talk trucks, they talk about the Convoy, the kindness of strangers, and about our brain dead justice system. Please take a listen here.
In the three years since the Convoy left Ottawa, Guy has driven back and forth - between Nova Scotia and Ottawa - for various court proceedings more than a dozen times. That means people with advanced degrees - many of whom are being paid with tax dollars - have devoted day after day to discussing these frivolous and vexatious charges.
Guy’s trial is set to begin just after St Patrick’s Day, on March 18th. It’s expected to continue the next day, Wednesday the 19th, and to end on Monday, the 24th.
I’m headed to Ottawa to attend that trial. While I’m there, you are cordially invited to gather with me at Bikers’ Church a week from today — on Sunday March 16th. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Coffee and dessert will be served.
If you don’t live near enough but have friends who do, please let them know about this event.
I don’t know if the Bikers Church has considered this, but if there is wifi, apparently it isn’t too difficult to live stream your talk there. Someone might have the know how.
