Walkscapes is a YouTube channel that consists mostly of videos recorded last year in Australia. But this February, things took a sharp turn. A dozen videos of the Freedom Convoy protest were uploaded there, as well.
Now a 47-minute compilation has been added. The opening frame reads: The People’s Uprising: Ottawa Freedom Convoy 2022. (At the end, we learn it’s dedicated to the truckers.)
This film does a great job of capturing the party atmosphere in Ottawa. Ambiance footage is interspersed with spontaneous street interviews involving at least a dozen members of the public. These people talk about personal choice, about freedoms secured by earlier generations. Again and again, we hear words such as ‘love’ and ‘unity.’
Early on (beginning just before the 3-minute mark), we meet a gent with a Jamaican accent. Waving a Canadian flag, he declares: “I never feel a love like this before.”
He sings about the importance of freedom so exuberantly that a crowd gathers and joins in. Kids and adults smile, cheer, and dance along. (One of the women carries a sign that reads: “This [registered nurse] stands for medical freedom!”)
The short video clip at the top of this page is the same footage. On the YouTube page to which it was originally uploaded, the videographer remarks:
This absolutely beautiful man freestyles for freedom at Parliament Hill. The anthem of the revolution!
This is what it's all about in Ottawa! The freedom convoy has been nothing but love, hope unity and celebration.
