This past week an impressive group of people assembled in Whitby, Ontario at the Great Canadian Awakening conference. Among those addressing the crowd were dissident pastors Art Pawlowski and Henry Hildebrandt.
Pawlowski, a Polish immigrant who has heroically battled Calgary police and public health authorities over COVID restrictions, delivered a rousing speech Friday afternoon, and another Saturday. Having been raised in a Communist country, he knows tyranny when he sees it. He also knows tyrants don’t back down and go away of their own accord.
When asked how he responds to religious leaders who threw him under the bus, Pastor Art replies: “What Bible are they reading?” Below is the famous video of him driving off officials who entered his church on Easter weekend, 2021. “Do you understand English?” he asks. “Go! And don’t come back without a warrant.”
Many Canadians currently feel battered and beleaguered. COVID-era overreach and alienation. COVID vaccine coercion and injury. Indoctrination of schoolkids with gender, racial, and climate agendas. 15-minute cities. Bans on plastic shopping bags and plastic straws. The phasing-out of gas-powered kitchen stoves, fireplaces, woodstoves, and gasoline-powered automobiles. Social media censorship, financial de-platforming.
We’re being pecked to death by ducks. Much of what we’ve considered normal life is under assault. How do we cope? How do we avoid falling into despair?
Christians believe that human dignity, human worth, and human rights are inherent. They believe these things come from God - not governments - and therefore cannot be abridged by governments.
Bad people exist. Bad ideas exist - and are being imposed on us by a vast array of taxpayer-funded schools, media outlets, ministries, departments, and agencies.
It is in this context that people have begun to remember that Christianity is a roadmap and a template. Through many dark periods of human history, Christianity has fueled peaceful resistance.
So happy to hear feedback from Great Canadian Awakening which I was unable to attend. And have taken inspiration from Pavowski for a long time. What courage he has shown and I believe he has recently been found guilty for his speech at border encouraging truckers in Alberta
Wonderful take, Donna.
