By the time the truckers departed for Ottawa, many Canadians had reached their limit as far as COVID restrictions were concerned.
For two years, we’d been largely cooperative as our lives were disrupted and preempted in unprecedented ways. Nevertheless, people trapped in tiny apartments were scolded for taking kids to the park. Rule breakers were fined tens of millions. Churches were blockaded by police. Religious leaders were jailed.
Health officials told us COVID vaccines were the path back to a normal life. Then they told us we should once again forgo Christmas with elderly relatives if we’d only received two doses. As the goalposts kept moving, those in authority kept scolding, rather than acknowledge their own mistakes.
The video clip below, filmed for the Post Millenial, shows a group of indigenous drummers on Parliament Hill the first Saturday of the Ottawa protest. Prior to leading the crowd in the singing of Canada’s national anthem, the woman with the megaphone declares:
“Freedom! That’s what we want…We want it now! Enough is enough!”
Another video, in which the woman with the megaphone is interviewed, can be seen here. She says she travelled with the convoy from Sudbury, Ontario and that the journey took nearly 10 hours (normally it’s a 6-hour drive). She says she’s 60 years old, and that “this is not the Canada” she wants her grandchildren to grow up in.
