Competing Freedom Convoy Perspectives
Emergencies Act inquiry receives nearly 9,500 comments from the public.
Late last year, members of the public were invited to share with the Emergencies Act inquiry their views about the Freedom Convoy and related issues. A 57-page summary of that feedback is available for download.
Drawing on nearly 9,500 responses, there’s lots of interesting material here. Regrettably, some of the remarks highlighted in that document are libellous bilge without the scantest of a factual foundation. On page 11, for example, an Ottawa resident claims to have witnessed numerous people “commit crimes” and endanger others.
No such evidence was presented to the inquiry. Hearsay and rumour abound, but police officers testified that the lack of crime was remarkable, considering the size and duration of the Ottawa protest.
It seems to me this individual must have been inhabiting a parallel universe from the one in which I spent a week. Minus some highly specific and highly persuasive new evidence, we’re talking serious hallucinations here. If this person’s testimony is to be believed, how could I not have witnessed a single instance? How did veteran journalist Rodney Palmer totally miss that aspect of things, as well? The good news, though, is that a number of comments reflecting the protester point-of-view also made it into this document. Several appear near the beginning.
For once, therefore, multiple perspectives about the convoy actually got a turn on stage. Perspectives contrary to the dominant narrative were actually heard. Here are three examples:
Regrettably, often clear thinking is buried under a billion obfuscating words.
Paraphrasing Ayn Rand, " Your right to life is violated when your liberty to support your life is denied." That's from an article, free on the web, Man's Rights.
That sums up the Covid 19 lockdown, a government action that violated all Canadian citizen's human rights, a concept not clearly understood by far too many folks.
Another Thank You Shoutout to You Donna and your comment Garret - I too have many things to comment on todays “Thank The Truckers” but there isn’t enough room to post a book!
