I Truly Believed My Canada Was Good
'I’m double-vaxxed. I did everything that I could possibly to help...But that went way too far.'
Numerous people speak directly to the camera during a video compilation about the Freedom Convoy that was recently posted to YouTube. These include a young woman whose first language is evidently French. In a charming accent, she describes a profound loss of innocence. An earthquake has taken place.
Beginning at 12:30 minutes, she says she was previously in Ottawa by chance when the truckers first arrived. She saw the protest firsthand, and therefore knew it was “a good movement.”
But after returning home and watching the news, she was horrified:
I used to be someone who kind of believed in what the government used to tell me, what my media used to tell me…And it was kind of like - how can I say - a slap in the face to know, to realize how bad the lies were.
…If I wasn’t there, I would still believe those media today…I knew they were twisting it, but this much? It kind of break my heart because it’s my country, I like it. I wanna watch the TV and believe in it…
…I truly believed my Canada was good, but when I saw that I have to stand up. I have no choice. ‘Cause this is really something that I don’t want my country to be.
…I believe in science. I’m double-vaxxed. I did everything that I could possibly to help this society get out of that crisis, of COVID. But that went way too far.
Presumably referring to Canada’s Prime Minister, this woman says he has lost her vote: “And now I’m standing up for the people that have less voice…because I was blind before.”
In her words, journalists who covered the convoy: “They didn’t twist it, they changed it. Completely, the narrative from A to Z.”
French-language, government subsidized journalists appear to have performed as poorly as their English-language colleagues. Five or 10 years from now, it’s possible 2022 will be seen as the year trust in Canada’s mainstream media nosedived.
Wish I could get my CBC Globe and Mail loving friends to read this first hand report..
