The Freedom Convoy had multiple arms. One group of truckers departed from Enfield, Nova Scotia (near the Halifax airport) on January 27th.
Hundreds of people - including many youngsters - gathered to cheer them on. At 7 am. In the dark. Thousands more stood on the side of highways and lined overpasses.
Nearly three dozen photos were posted online here that day. The reporter tells us it was “bitterly cold,” that the crowd “was mostly working-class,” and that the “Canadian flag was everywhere.”
Looking at those images, at the homemade signs people were holding, we see familiar themes. Gratitude. Love. Admiration.
So many ‘thank yous’. So many hearts. References to heroes. And to freedom.
When the truckers stepped forward, they were viewed as champions - like medieval knights in shining armour. On their 1,400 km (870 mile) journey to Ottawa, Nova Scotia’s truckers carried with them the hopes and prayers of countless Canadians.
